Circular Wonderings is an exploration of the role of digital, software and technology in the Circular Economy. Exploration is the key word here. I write regularly, reflecting on my current thoughts and research. Zero Waste Hierarchy (part 3)

Third reflection on going back to basics by looking at the Zero Waste Hierarchy [1].

"Recycle" (or "Compost" for biological materials) is far down the hierarchy. The obvious (and perhaps most important) take away is that recycling is not the only, or even the main, focus. Too often circular economy, or even waste management, is equated to just recycling.

Recycling is a vital loop in circularity. And there are contexts in which it is the most obvious first step. For the next season of the podcast we are interviewing entrepreneurs and circular economy experts across Africa - and the "on the ground" context there is very different from here in Scotland. One thing I'm seeing with those conversations is that starting with recycling is creating some exciting beach heads into creating local change in a much broader way. Check out Mr Green Africa for one cool example [3] (podcast season 6 coming soon!).
